Friends,
U/S 80C of Income Tax there a provision for rebate on the amount paid by you as Tuition Fees of your child. But some times there a question arises whether Tution Fee paid for Diploma Courses is allowed under this section or not.
The provision under section 80C(xvii) states as under
"(xvii) as tuition fees (excluding any payment towards any development fees or donation or payment of similar nature), whether at the time of admission or thereafter,
(a) to any university, college, school or other educational institution situated within India; (b) for the purpose of full-time education of any of the persons specified in sub-section (4);"
In my opinion , the deduction is allowed for pursuing any full time course run in India by an educational institution in India and nothing in the I T Act provides that these institution should be recognised only by India or states. The provision also does not differentiate between a degree and diploma course. Therefore , in my opinion even diploma course which is full time course is eligible for deduction u/s 80C.
Hence , if someone is doings full time course , I feel the tuition fee component out of the total fee shall be eligible for deduction u/s 80C.
