Friends,
dBASE5 and it compatible and any 16-bit Program have no problem in running with the Operating System Windows XP or earlier versions of Windows. Now the persons who are using Window 7 or upper version of Windows can't run these programs. dBASE5 is 16-bit program which could be run in a 64-bit Window. This is the reason we find the problem to execute this program. The solution to this problem is DOSBox an utility, a free opensource DOS & X86 Emulator for Windows & Linux. DOSBox is ideally for users who wants to play old games or even applications which are not supported on the newer versions of Windows like Windows Vista, Windows XP. DOSBox is simple and easy to use and but still can provide you with very useful features to run your old applications and games.
Download the Latest Version of DOSBox from HERE
After Downloading the installer will extract and install the required file to the system. Install the file to c:\dosbox folder when it asks the path to install the files. This path is not necessary but it will be helpful to manage files.
After installing this program, make a sub directory c:\oldapps\app, c:\oldapps\games etc and copy all your old applications or games to these folders.
Now run the DOSBOX Program from the directory c:\dosbox or from the icon created on the Desktop. After running the program the screen will look like this
The next step is to Mount the old application directory (c;\oldapps) as the Root (C:) to the DOSBox console by using the following command in the DOSBox console.
Z:\MOUNT C C:\OLDAPPS
Drive C Mounted as Local Directory C:\OLDAPPS
You can also mount the CD-ROM drive as below :
Z:\MOUNT G G:\ -T cdrom
MSCDEX installed.
Drive G is mounted as CDRom G:\
The final step is change from the default Z: to C:. This will take you into the new root for your DOSBox we mounted earlier as follows:
Z:\C:
C:\
Now, you should find all your apps (app, games etc) from where you can install and run the applications of your choice.
